Thank you for your enquiry regarding Toronto Early Learning Centre.  This brochure is designed to provide you with a brief overview about the centre.  We have presented the information in the form of frequently asked questions.

What are the opening hours?

The centre is open 6.30 a.m. – 6.30 p.m. Monday to Friday.

What age groups do you cater for?

We cater for children aged 0-5 years.    A school readiness programme exists for the older pre-schoolers.

What is your philosophy?

The philosophy behind our program is to provide quality care and education for children in a safe and supportive environment, which is responsive to the needs of the children and their families.

We recognise that the early years are vital in a child’s life and aim to provide an environment, which nurtures their growth in all areas.

We believe each family has the right to be respected regardless of their culture, gender, age, socio-economic status, religion, physical and intellectual abilities.

What are the goals of your programme?

Nursery Program (0 – 2 yrs.)

The early years are a time of rapid development.

For this group, our goal is to provide a home-like environment in which children feel safe, secure and happy, and to make progress in all areas of their development.

Close communication between staff and parents is maintained at all times, allowing parents to stay informed of their child’s day and for staff to ensure home routines are followed as closely as possible

Toddler Program (2 – 3 yrs.)

We recognise that this is an age during which children start to develop autonomy.  In response to this need for independence, children are assisted with tasks that may be frustrating, but given encouragement to do as much as possible by themselves.

Our goal is to encourage their growing independence and to provide a learning environment in which children can develop in all areas - social, emotional, physical, language and intellectual.

Preschool Program (3 – 5 yrs.)

One of the most important goals for this group is to help children become enthusiastic learners.  Children are encouraged to be active and creative explorers who are not afraid to try out their ideas and to think their own thoughts.

The programme is educationally based in that children are taught basic skills in numeracy, literacy, computer use, etc.   It is our aim to give children a strong foundation to build upon at school.  However, the programme is planned is such a way that children are acquiring these skills through fun and play activities.  In other words, they are learning important skills without realising they are learning them!

Parent/teacher partnership

Our program works best when teachers and parents work together.  Nobody knows a child better than the parent.

Part of our philosophy is to have a high rate of mutual communication between parents and staff.  This helps to provide a partnership, which will benefit your child’s development to their maximum potential.
